Comic Book Update

Matt and I have been making some decent progress on the comic book.  I’ve finally have a rough skeleton outline developed for the first six issues.  Now, I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned this already or not, but we have envisioned ourselves creating a six issue mini-series comic to introduce the main characters of our story and set the setting for an extended series run should we successfully pitch the comic to a publishing company - or decide to produce it on our own.  So, having said that, it’s pretty exciting to finally have an idea of what we are trying to accomplish in this mini-series.

Currently the first two issues have been outlined in detail and are ready to written into a script, however,  due to the way I am writing the first six issues, I needed to figure out what was going to happen in all six issues before I could start writing the first.  Now that I finally know where I am going, the scripts can begin and the characters can come alive.

In addition, last month a Mini MegaCon went on in Orlando.  It’s called a “Mini” MegaCon because the really one happens in April every year and is 4 times as big.  Now MegaCon is the largest southeastern United States comic book convention.  Think of it as the San Diego Comic-Con but with more comics and less movies and movie stars.  Anyways, MegaCon is both a fun and interesting experience.  On the one hand, you are surrounded by a huge amount of talent in both writing and drawing.  Hundreds of people are there pitching and showing off their work to the masses.  It’s fantastic to be around people doing the same things your are.  Now, on the other hand, people to “dress up” at these conventions too.  So it’s like Halloween only unless you are a Sci-Fi, anime or comic book fan, you aren’t going to recognize any of the characters.  (Case in point:  my financee) All in all though, it really is fun to go and attend.

Now the reason we went to convention was because there were a number of panels going on dealing with creating your own comic.  We sat in on panels that had a number of famous artists and writers and we were able to ask questions and get answers from people working in the industry that we, ourselves, want to someday get into.  We were able to understand what it’s like to work under the larger publishing companies like Marvel or DC, as well as, learn just what it takes to produce and market your comic on your own.  It was very educational and we learned a lot.  Some really good ideas came out of the convention too.  And I don’t want to get into too much detail because for one they are still in development, but for another, I don’t want to give any of our ideas away.  Matt and I have some pretty ambitious plans though.  I just really hope that we can put the time and effort needed to do the ideas justice.

Anyways, I’ll leave you with some updates on the concept work my brother’s been working on.  Enjoy.

Comic Book Update: Cell Shaded Study II

From my brother:

“Here is another attempt at cell shading. I’m starting to kick myself for running out of room in my original drawings and not drawing the feet as a result. Next time I’ll flip the page vertical to draw! So again, I’m trying to decide if I’ll go this route with coloring the comic. We shall see as I am not fully convinced yet.”

“Here is the girl colored up using the cell shading style. Because these are going so quick I think I will try to knock out the other two characters today. Stay tuned! ”

“I’ve added the Loner now! Not sure about the color scheme though!

Here is a quick look at the General character all colored up as well. I’m not even sure if I’ll be sticking with his costume design at this point. But I decided to color him regardless! The color scheme is fun though. Hah!”

Things are coming along.  I just need to find time to work on the story.  The packing and moving are monopolizing my time right now.  More to come.

Comic Book Update: Cell Shaded Study

From my brother:

“I’m going to try out a number of different ways to color these characters so that I can determine the most efficient and pleasant path to take for the comic! This is actually the first time I’ve made anything cell shaded! More to come!”

Comic Book Update

My brother and I have been slowly making some progress on the Comic Book.  Unfortunately, I have not been able to make a lot of progress on the story because of the new house, but hopefully that will change in the coming month.  Regardless, my brother has more than enough to draw, so I have enough time to catch up.

I’ll post more on the general idea on the story once things are a little more concrete, but for now, enjoy the initial concepts of the 5 main characters of the story.

The Comic Book

After years upon years of talking about making a comic book, my brother and I are finally going to do one.  Well, at least start one to see if it’s everything we had made it out to be.  In an effort to give making a comic a try we’ve decided to do a quick 5 to 6 issue mini series just to see how much it will take to make one and to see if it’s something we’d want to do on a continual basis.

I’m pretty excited about it.  One of the reasons I started up blogging (again) was to getting writing again and my brother started his blog to promote his artwork.  I guess we both started getting the itch around the same time.

We are still in the developing stages.  All we have right now is the general setting and a few characters that need to be developed, but it’s getting us pumped.  The issues we plan to produce are going to be created in an effort to introduce the characters and universe to the reader with the understanding that the story could go much deeper if pursued further.  It’s exciting to think just what could happen if we do this right.

I’ll keep posting as things progress.
